4th Week of Easter – Thursday C

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, as we gather during this Easter season, a time of renewed hope, joy, and reflection on the great mystery of Christ’s Resurrection, today’s readings invite us to deepen our understanding of God’s ongoing plan of salvation and our role within it.

In the First Reading from the Book of Acts, Saint Paul recounts the story of Israel’s history—God’s chosen people—leading us from their deliverance from Egypt, through the period of judges, to the anointing of David, from whom Jesus, our Saviour, descends. Paul emphasizes that Jesus is the fulfillment of God’s promises, the culmination of this long history of salvation. The psalmist echoes this theme, singing of God's everlasting kindness and faithfulness, proclaiming that God's love and mercy are eternal.

What stands out for us in this reflection is the pattern of divine fidelity and the fulfillment of God's promises. Just as God was faithful to David and the people of Israel, He remains faithful to us today. The Resurrection is the ultimate sign that God's promises are yes and amen in Christ. It assures us that God's love is stronger than death, and His plan for salvation continues to unfold. This is why, notwithstanding our sins from the past or those that may yet come, his love for us will never end.

In the Gospel, Jesus demonstrates the supreme act of service and humility by washing His disciples’ feet. In doing this, Jesus reminds us to serve others without regard for status or position. He also reminds us that true greatness in the Kingdom of God is found in serving others, just as He served us, laying down his life in atonement for our sins.

Moreover, Jesus prepares His disciples for the suffering and betrayal that were about to unfold, affirming that His death is the ultimate act of love and service. His words, “No slave is greater than his master,” challenge us to imitate His humility and selflessness.

So, what message does this hold for us? During this Easter season, we are called to reflect on how the Resurrection transforms our lives. We are invited to see ourselves as participants in God's ongoing mission of salvation—a mission rooted in love, humility, and service. Just as Jesus washed the feet of His disciples, we are called to humble ourselves when interacting with others, always trying to do good things for them.

Let us also remember that faith is strengthened when we accept Jesus and those He sends. Our acceptance of the Gospel is not just intellectual but lived out in acts of charity. It is through these acts that we participate in God's divine plan, bringing about His Kingdom here on earth.

In this Easter season, let us renew our commitment to serve as Christ served. Let us open our hearts to the needs of others, especially those most in need of love and compassion. Like Paul, who proclaimed the good news of who Jesus is and how he humbled Himself to serve, we are called to be witnesses of God's love in the world. Let us go and tell the world, that God is love and that he desires each of us to spend an eternity together with him.

May the joy of the Resurrection inspire us to live lives of humility, service, and unwavering faith, confident that God's promises are fulfilled in Christ, now and forever.
