In today’s readings, we hear of the founder of the Persian Empire, King Cyrus the Great, who reigned from the year 559 BC to 530 BC. We know that God used this pagan king in order to fulfil his will, allowing his people to return to the Promised Land. They had been exiled, for they had lost their way. They had sinned against the Lord their God, following other gods, worshipping idols—a profanation, a sacrilege in the eyes of the Lord.
Nelle letture di oggi sentiamo parlare del fondatore dell'Impero persiano, il re Ciro il Grande, che regnò dal 559 a.C. al 530 a.C. Sappiamo che Dio si servì di questo re pagano per compiere la sua volontà, permettendo al suo popolo di tornare nella Terra Promessa. Essi erano stati esiliati perché avevano smarrito la retta via. Avevano peccato contro il Signore loro Dio, seguendo altri dei, adorando idoli: una profanazione, un sacrilegio agli occhi del Signore. E così Dio mandò Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, a portarli in esilio.
