19th Week of Ordinary Time C – Tuesday – Saint Jane Frances de Chantal
Saint Jane Frances de Chantal, whose memory we celebrate today, lived a life marked by deep love, painful loss, and unwavering faith. Born in France in 1572, she was a devoted wife and mother who endured the tragic death of her husband in a hunting accident, leaving her a widow with several young children. Instead of allowing grief to embitter her, Jane turned her sorrow into a deeper surrender to God’s will. She dedicated herself to works of mercy and to her family until, through providential friendship with Saint Francis de Sales, she discerned a religious vocation. Together they founded the Order of the Visitation of Holy Mary, a community rooted in humility, gentleness, and interior devotion, especially welcoming to women who were not physically strong enough for more austere orders.
