Today, we celebrate the beautiful memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary. And this image of Our Lady who's crowned in Heaven as queen has deep Old Testament roots, especially once we understand how kingship worked in the Davidic kingdom. And the first reading fits beautifully because it announces the coming Davidic king. If Christ is the promised king, then the biblical pattern helps us understand why his mother is honoured as queen.
