My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, peace be with you. My friends, before I entered the Franciscan order, I had the beautiful grace of living a life of a missionary in the land of the Philippines. And so for all of my Philippine visitors to FranciscanPreacher.com, I offer this reflection on today's memorial of their beautiful saint, Lawrence Ruiz and his companions, who were martyred in Japan, because I remember that the Filipino people were so full of love and so hospitable, and they would give you their hearts. Even the poor people of the Philippines would try to give you and help you out with everything they had and I remember that they were a simple people, and they were always so very proud of their wonderful saint, Lawrence Ruiz, whom the Church offers as an optional memorial today throughout the world.

Miei cari fratelli e sorelle in Cristo, pace a voi. Prima di entrare nell'Ordine Francescano, ho avuto la bella grazia di vivere una vita da missionario nelle Filippine. E così, per tutti i visitatori filippini di FranciscanPreacher.com, offro questa riflessione sulla memoria di San Lorenzo Ruiz e dei suoi compagni, martirizzati in Giappone. Ricordo il popolo filippino come un popolo pieno di amore e di ospitalità, pronto a donarti il proprio cuore. Anche i poveri cercavano di offrirti e di aiutarti con tutto ciò che avevano. Ed erano sempre molto fieri del loro grande santo, Lorenzo Ruiz.
